Pre-Trip Preparation:

Passport/ID: Ensure your passport or identification card is valid. I always make sure to have a copy of my documents with me wherever I go. You never know what might happen, so it’s good to be prepared. Visas: Check visa requirements for your destination and arrange the necessary documentation. Tickets: Confirm and print out tickets and any other important documents. Make sure to double-check and print your tickets, hotel bookings, and any other important papers. Even though you can often use your phone for tickets, it’s smart to have a hard copy too. This way, you won’t worry about problems like a lost or dead phone, or no internet connection, especially for flights outside Europe. Travel Insurance: Don’t forget to purchase travel insurance for peace of mind. Medications: Pack any prescription medications you’ll need, along with a copy of your prescriptions. Travel Apps: Download useful travel apps for navigation, translation, and currency conversion. When I need to find my way around without the internet, I usually download offline Google Maps for a specific city. For exchanging currency, I use the Xe Currency & Money Transfer app, which also works offline. Some common types include Type A, Type B, Type C, Type D, and Type G plugs, so it’s handy to have the right adapter for your devices.

Packing:

I always bring a laptop or tablet and a book when I travel. This way, I have something to keep me occupied during waits at the airport or layovers, and for entertainment during the flight. Consider purchasing a tracker like an AirTag, especially if you use an iPhone. I recently bought an AirTag, and I’m excited to try it out for the first time. I’ve decided to put it in my suitcase to test its tracking abilities. Previously, I had it in my wallet, but after reading online, I learned that it’s commonly used to track suitcases during layovers. This way, I can ensure that my suitcase is being transported and have an idea of its whereabouts if it happens to get lost. Consider purchasing an inflatable travel pillow because it doesn’t take up much space and can be handy to have. Check this one out. A folding water bottle can be a real lifesaver. I used to carry a glass water bottle, but it took up too much space in my bag. That’s why I switched to a foldable water bottle. It’s great because, in some airports, there are water fountains where you can fill it up. Paying a lot for a water bottle at the airport feels like a rip-off, don’t you agree? How to pack a hat in a suitcase? Fill the hat with soft stuff like socks, underwear, or T-shirts to help it keep its shape. Make sure you fill any empty spaces inside the hat but don’t stuff it too much, or it might lose its shape. Put the hat in the middle of your suitcase, and surround it with soft items like clothes or packing cubes for extra protection. how to pack a hat in a suitcase AliExpress can be quite useful at times. I came across this hat clip that can be attached to your bag. It’s incredibly convenient! You might think it’s strange, but no matter the weather, I always bring an umbrella. I got a really small one that doesn’t take up much space. That way, I’ll be ready if it starts raining unexpectedly. Trust me, it happens! If you’re bringing two or more suitcases when you travel, bring the small one with you and don’t check it in. Why? Well, from experience, the checked luggage can sometimes get lost or delayed. That’s why I always pack essential items for at least a few days in a small suitcase and keep it with me. This way, no matter what happens to my checked baggage, it won’t ruin my trip or my mood.

At the airport

Be early: Arrive at the airport well in advance of your flight (I think arriving two hours before the flight is sufficient) to avoid rushing and ensure you have enough time for check-in, security, and potential unexpected delays. Baggage drop-off: If you have checked baggage, proceed to the airline’s check-in counter or designated kiosk to drop off your bags. Ensure they are tagged with the correct destination. Check your gate: Look at the departure boards to find your flight’s gate and give yourself enough time to get there. Security check: Prepare your documents (passport and boarding pass) and remove any metal objects from your pockets, such as keys, coins, and belts, and place them in a tray for screening. You’ll also have to take out any electronic devices like laptops, tablets, cameras, and drones from your bag for a separate screening. In some airports, they may even ask you to remove portable batteries for inspection. Don’t forget to remove all the liquids. The liquids should be packed in small containers that hold 100 milliliters or less. Then, pack them in a clear plastic zip bag.
