Dear travelers,
We’ve already told you about some amazing places in Vienna, but we still have more Vienna travel tips to share. Let’s dive into how to get to Vienna and where to stay once you’re there.
Car
If you plan to drive there, you’ll love the journey because you’ll see beautiful mountain views along the motorways and expressways. Remember to buy a sticker called a vignette, which is like a toll pass for Austria’s roads.
You can buy it at border crossings or gas stations with a duration of 10 days (€ 9.90), 2 months (€ 29), or a whole year (€ 96.40). It’s for all vehicles up to 3.5 tons. If you don’t have one, you could get fined. Stick the vignette on your windshield before entering Austria. It’s really important to do this, or you might get a big fine. There’s now a digital version of the sticker you can buy online or through an app, but it’s not valid right away. You have to wait about 18 days after buying it online before it’s good to go.
If you are traveling from Slovenia, the best way is by car (the distance between the two cities is approximately 380 kilometers, and the journey takes around 4 to 5 hours, depending on traffic conditions), train (it takes around 6 hours and you need to change trains in Graz or Villach), or shuttle (I’ve been using Goopti, they picked me up from home and dropped me off at the main bus station in Vienna)
Train
Vienna is well-connected to major European cities by an extensive rail network. Depending on your starting point, you can find direct train routes or connections from nearby cities. Popular routes include trains from Budapest, Prague, Munich, and Zurich. Check train schedules and book your tickets in advance to secure the best fares and seat reservations.
Airplane
Vienna International Airport (VIE) is one of the busiest airports in Central Europe, serving as a major hub for both domestic and international flights. When booking your flight to Vienna, consider factors such as airline options, flight duration, and budget. Direct flights to Vienna are available from numerous cities worldwide, including major European capitals and international hubs. The airport offers various transportation options to reach your final destination in Vienna, including:
-

-
S-Bahn (Suburban Train): The S-Bahn line S7 connects the airport with several key locations in Vienna, including Wien Mitte, Wien Praterstern, and Wien Floridsdorf. The journey takes around 25-30 minutes.

If you’re flying from Macedonia, you have two options: you can book a Wizz flight directly from Ohrid to Vienna, or you can travel from Skopje to Bratislava. To travel from Bratislava to Vienna, you have several transportation options:
-
Train: You can take a train from Bratislava’s main train station (Hlavná stanica) to Vienna’s Hauptbahnhof (main station) or Wien Mitte station. The journey takes approximately one hour, and trains run frequently throughout the day.
-
Bus: There are also direct bus services (check Flixbus) operating between Bratislava and Vienna. Buses depart from the main bus station (Autobusová stanica) in Bratislava and arrive at various locations in Vienna. The journey takes around one to one and a half hours, depending on the route and traffic.
-
Shared Shuttle: Shared shuttle services are also available for travelers seeking door-to-door transportation between Bratislava and Vienna. These shuttle services usually operate on a pre-arranged basis and offer convenient transportation options for individuals or small groups.
