Fun Things to Do in Ljubljana (That Locals Secretly Love Too!)

Dear travelers,

You know those days when you want to do something, but you’re not sure what? Maybe you’re not in the mood for a night out, maybe the weather is doing that classic Ljubljana drizzle, or maybe you just want to break out of the routine. I get it, happens to me too. And that’s why I started hunting for fun activities in Ljubljana that aren’t just the “top 10 tourist attractions” you’ll find on every travel site.

Here are three things to do in Ljubljana that are playful, a little unexpected, and definitely fun, whether you’re a local or just visiting.

Flight Simulator Ljubljana

Flight Simulator #1

I never thought I’d explore New York City from Ljubljana, but that’s exactly what happened thanks to a Flight Simulator experience. One minute I was walking through Ljubljana, and the next I was sitting in a real Airbus pilot’s cabin, gazing out at the glowing lights of Manhattan at night.

What makes it fun:

    • Real Pilot’s Cockpit – it’s not just a screen; you sit inside a full replica of an Airbus cabin. Every button, every lever, every detail is there.
    • Learn the Difference: Airbus vs. Boeing – I’d always wondered what separates the two. This was the day I finally found out.
    • Up to 4-5 People – you don’t have to go alone. Bring friends and share the thrill. Perfect even for a teambuilding.
    • Guided by a Pilot – a real pilot walks you through the controls: taking off, opening the wheels, landing smoothly, and what to keep an eye on during flight.
  • Choose Your Adventure – want to fly at night over New York? Or maybe take off from London or Ljubljana? You decide the location and the time of day.
  • The Surprise Detail – airplanes have pedals, just like cars. I had no idea before stepping inside.

It’s a mix of adrenaline and pure fascination. It was so convincing I had to remind myself, no, you didn’t just sign up for pilot school.

Practical info:

  • Location: Miklošičeva cesta 7A
  • Opening hours: Open daily (booking required). Book here: www.flyone.si
  • Price: From 105 € depending on flight length
  • Tip: Go with friends (up to 5 seats in the cabin), it’s way more fun to share the experience.

House of Illusions

This one had me grinning the whole time. The Museum of Illusions is exactly what it sounds like: a place where nothing is as it seems. And trust me, it’s much more fun if you bring a friend (or two) to laugh with while your senses are completely fooled.

Highlights you shouldn’t miss:

  • Ames Room – stand in one corner and look like a giant, move to the other and suddenly you’re pint-sized.

  • The Vortex Tunnel – step inside and watch your balance vanish instantly. Definitely one of those glitch in the Matrix moments.

  • Upside-down Room – one of the most photographed rooms in the museum. Strike a pose, snap the photo, and suddenly you’re walking on the ceiling. Only your imagination is the limit.

  • Head on a Plate – the classic “decapitated” illusion that makes for the best prank photo.

  • Optical & Face Illusions – mind-bending tricks that make you question what you’re really seeing.

  • Face Mashup – ever wanted to swap noses or even your whole face? Too crazy, painful, or expensive in real life, but here it’s easy. Just pick a friend and mash your faces together for a hilarious result.

  • Kaleidoscope Selfie – probably the best selfie in town. The kaleidoscope effect turns you into a work of art, and you can even print it out as a souvenir.

  • Infinity Mirror Disco Room – step inside and suddenly you’re at a party in another dimension. It’s lights, reflections, and pure fun.

  • Room of Space Meditation – take a quiet moment surrounded by the space.

  • Games at the End – puzzle and brain games that round off the visit with one last bit of fun.

And if you’re brave, press the red button in the “toilet party” room. I dare you.

Practical info:

  • Location: Kongresni trg 13, Ljubljana

  • Opening hours: Open every day, 9 AM – 9 PM (even holidays)

  • Price: From 11€, buy tickets here.

  • Tip: Perfect for rainy days or when you’ve had enough of walking the old town streets.

Clay and Wine at Arty Party

If you’re looking for something relaxing but still social, Arty Party is the place to be. Think of it as therapy for your hands, plus wine. Lots of wine.

What makes it fun:

  • Different Clay Workshops – choose between making mugs, plates, or bowls. Each workshop focuses on a different technique, so you’ll actually learn how to shape clay from scratch.

  • Start from Zero – even if you’ve never touched clay before (like me), the instructors walk you through everything. I joined the mug-making class and somehow ended up with two cups that didn’t collapse.

  • Pick Your Clay – you can choose between gray/black or white clay, depending on the look you want.

  • Add Your Personal Touch – once your creations are shaped, you get to decorate them however you like.

  • Fired and Finished – after the class, they bake your pieces and let you know when they’re ready for pickup (usually about 2–3 weeks later).

  • Unlimited Wine – yes, really. Sip, sculpt, repeat. The combination of clay and wine turns out to be surprisingly perfect.

There’s something so satisfying about creating something with your hands while chatting, laughing, and drinking wine.

Practical info:

  • Location: Arty Party Studio, Ljubljana

  • Workshops held regularly (booking required). Check the workshops here

  • Prices vary by workshop type (best to check on their website)

  • Tip: Go with friends, it’s way more fun when everyone’s clay looks uniquely questionable after a few glasses.

Ljubljana may be small, but it’s full of surprises once you step off the main tourist path. The city has a playful side that even locals love to tap into.

So next time you’re stuck thinking “What should I do today?”, try one of these. And if you discover another quirky spot, let me know, I’m always on the lookout for more fun in our little green capital.

Truly yours,
