Dear travelers,
This is my favorite airport because of its design—I love it! Located in central Croatia, Zagreb Airport (also known as Franjo Tuđman Airport) is the main entry point to this beautiful country. Whether you’re visiting the historic city of Zagreb, traveling to the gorgeous Adriatic coast, or starting a Balkan adventure, Zagreb Airport provides a welcoming arrival. Here’s what you can expect.
This airport is easy to navigate despite Zagreb being the capital of Croatia; it isn’t very large. My advice is to arrive there 2 hours before the flight. Be prepared for some waiting time at the security check, as usually, only two lines are open. Additionally, I’ve experienced the sensors being quite sensitive, resulting in my luggage being selected for an additional particle check twice.
If you are traveling to or from a country within the European Union, there are no additional immigration checks.
How to get there?
To get to Zagreb Airport, you have several options. You can take a shuttle bus from Zagreb’s main bus station, which costs around 7-8€. For a more budget-friendly alternative, head to Kvaternikov Trg and take bus line 290 for just 0.80€. Also, one additional information, Uber is available in Zagreb.
If you’re going with a car, look for parking places near the airport, as these lots often provide shuttle services to the terminal and are significantly cheaper than parking at the airport itself.
Facilities and services
Zagreb Airport offers a range of amenities to ensure a comfortable and convenient experience. Staying connected is hassle-free with free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal and numerous charging stations. Clean, well-maintained restrooms and plenty of comfortable seating areas make waiting for your flight more pleasant. There is also a currency exchange office at the airport, but keep in mind that Croatia switched from the Croatian kuna to the euro as its official currency in 2023.
For food and drink, there are coffee shops, a pub, and a restaurant, though prices can be high—a sandwich costs around 7€, an iced latte 5€, and a croissant 5.50€. For shopping, you can explore duty-free and clothing shops, including Victoria’s Secret. Take some time to stroll around and enjoy some shopping before your flight.
Smoking area
This is crucial information for me when traveling, judge me or not: there is a smoking zone after the security check, so don’t worry.
Note: Based on a friend’s experience, as I have never flown from Zagreb to a non-EU country myself, please be aware that the gates for non-EU countries are separate. You will need to pass through passport control, and after clearing control, there is no smoking zone available.
Enjoy your time at Zagreb Airport!
Truly yours,
