Dear travelers,
You know those weekends when you don’t want an adventure, you want a reset button?
Not the kind where you run from museum to museum or check off ten restaurants from a list. I mean the kind where you slow down, breathe, and maybe spend an unreasonable amount of time in a bathrobe.
That’s exactly why we decided to spend a spa weekend in Rovinj in March.
Now, if you’ve ever visited Rovinj in summer, you probably picture the usual scene: crowded cobblestone streets, full terraces, boats coming and going, Aperol glasses clinking somewhere near the marina.
March, however, is a completely different story.
Many of the restaurants and bars were closed. The streets were quiet. Some terraces were still stacked with chairs waiting for the season to begin.
But honestly? That was the whole point.
We came for one very specific reason:
Grand Park Hotel Rovinj.
Ranked among the Top 50 Hotels in the World, this hotel has been on our list for a while. And after spending a weekend there, I can confidently say it absolutely deserves the title.
Why Visit Rovinj in the Off-Season
Space. Silence. Breathing room.
Instead of navigating crowds through the old town, you can wander freely through the stone streets, hear the waves hitting the marina, and watch the boats without twenty people taking photos beside you.
The Quiet Side of Rovinj
There’s something incredibly peaceful about Rovinj when it slows down. It’s the kind of atmosphere that naturally pushes you into slow travel mode. And when your plan is a spa weekend, that’s exactly what you want.
What’s Open and What’s Not
Let’s be honest for a second: Not everything is open in March.
Some restaurants and bars are closed until the season begins. If your goal is a huge food tour across the city, summer might be better.
But if you’re staying somewhere like Grand Park Hotel Rovinj, that honestly doesn’t matter much.
Still, I always like to be prepared when traveling.
So I created a Google Map with my Rovinj tips where I save:
Restaurants worth visiting
Good coffee spots
Scenic viewpoints
Wine bars
Hidden corners of the old town
It’s basically my personal Rovinj cheat sheet.
But today’s story isn’t really about the city.
It’s about the place that made this trip unforgettable.
Grand Park Hotel Rovinj: One of the Best Hotels in the World
Some hotels are beautiful. Some are luxurious. And then there are hotels that feel like they’ve thought about everything.
Grand Park Hotel Rovinj belongs firmly in that last category.
Located right across the marina from Rovinj’s old town, the hotel offers one of the most iconic views in the city: the skyline of the old town with the church of St. Euphemia rising above the sea. It’s the kind of view you never get tired of.
A Hotel With Global Recognition
Grand Park Hotel Rovinj isn’t just popular with travelers. It has received serious international recognition, including being listed among the Top 50 Hotels in the World.
After staying there, it’s easy to understand why.
Everything—from service to design—feels intentional.
First Impressions
Walking into the hotel lobby feels like stepping into a modern Mediterranean sanctuary.
The architecture blends:
stone
greenery
glass
water
Everything opens toward the sea, and the view of Rovinj is impossible to ignore.
There’s also a lobby bar with one of the best views in the city, but we’ll come back to that later. First, let’s talk about something that surprised me. The check-in process started before we even arrived.
The Seamless Pre-Arrival Experience
A few days before our stay, we received an email from the hotel with pre-arrival check-in options.
It wasn’t just basic information either.
They asked for things like:
passport details
vehicle registration
room preferences
But the most interesting detail? You could choose the type of pillow you wanted.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve never stayed somewhere where I was asked about my pillow preferences before arriving. It’s a small detail, but it says a lot about the level of personalized hospitality the hotel aims for.
The Room: Thoughtful Luxury With Sea Views
When we finally entered our room, the first thing we did was walk straight to the balcony. Because the view was exactly what we hoped for.
Our room overlooked the sea, with Rovinj’s old town perfectly framed in the distance. And right in front of our terrace? A small infinity pool area.
Welcome Amenities
Inside the room, we found a thoughtful selection of small details that immediately made us feel welcome:
Fresh fruit
Homemade cookies
A fully stocked mini bar
Wine and water glasses
A Nespresso coffee machine
Everything was arranged beautifully. It felt less like entering a hotel room and more like arriving at a carefully prepared guest space.
The Bathroom Experience
The bathroom was basically a mini spa on its own.
It included:
A large bathtub
A rain shower
Elegant stone design
Soft lighting that made everything feel calm and luxurious
And waiting for us in the closet were:
bathrobes
slippers
a spa bag
Meaning we could walk straight to the spa without worrying about packing anything.
Twice-Daily Room Service
Another detail I loved was the twice-daily housekeeping.
Each day the room was serviced:
In the morning (full cleaning)
In the evening (turndown service)
In the evening they prepared the room for sleep, closing curtains, adjusting the lighting, and making everything feel cozy.
It’s one of those small luxury touches that makes you feel completely taken care of.
Dining at Grand Park Hotel Rovinj
Even if you never left the hotel, you’d still have excellent food options.
The Lobby Bar With a View
The lobby bar quickly became one of our favorite spots.
Why? Because the terrace faces directly toward Rovinj’s old town.
Imagine sitting there with a cocktail while watching the sunset over the harbor. The cocktail menu is excellent, and they also offer small snacks if you want something light.
A La Carte Restaurant
The hotel also has an elegant a la carte restaurant, perfect for a relaxed dinner. The menu focuses on Mediterranean flavors with a modern touch.
Michelin-Star Dining
And if you want something truly special, the hotel also houses a Michelin-star restaurant.
One of the Best Hotel Breakfasts I’ve Ever Had
I’m not exaggerating when I say this breakfast deserves applause. Our reservation included breakfast, and honestly, it might be one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve ever experienced.
The Buffet
The buffet alone could easily satisfy most people.
It included:
local cheeses
fresh vegetables
yogurts
pastries and croissants
fresh bread
But then things escalated.
There were also:
oysters
champagne
Which is a pretty bold way to start the morning.
A La Carte Egg Menu
On top of the buffet, you could order eggs prepared however you wanted:
omelettes
scrambled eggs
poached eggs
Everything arrived perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.
The Spa: A True Oasis in Rovinj
And finally, the reason we came here in the first place. The spa. If the hotel rooms feel relaxing, the spa feels like stepping into another world.
The Sauna Experience
The spa includes:
two Finnish saunas
two steam rooms
A Spa Surrounded by Water and Plants
The design of the spa is incredible.
There are relaxation areas surrounded by:
water features
plants
soft lighting
There’s also a rehydration area where you can drink water or tea between sauna sessions.
Everything feels calm, quiet, and immersive.
Indoor and Outdoor Pools
The hotel features multiple pools. There’s a large indoor pool connected to a heated outdoor pool, which was perfect for March. Swimming outside while warm steam rises from the water… with the sea view in front of you?
There’s also a stunning infinity pool, although it wasn’t heated during our visit. Still beautiful though.
Even the Gym Has a View
And if you’re someone who likes to stay active while traveling, the gym might actually motivate you to work out.
Because yes, even the gym overlooks the sea.
Sometimes the best trips aren’t the ones where you travel far. Sometimes they’re the ones where you simply slow down somewhere beautiful. Our weekend at Grand Park Hotel Rovinj felt exactly like that.
A quiet city.
A beautiful hotel.
A spa that makes time disappear.
And a breakfast that may have ruined all future hotel breakfasts for me.
If you’re ever looking for a luxury spa weekend in Croatia, this place absolutely deserves a spot on your list.
And if you want my full list of Rovinj restaurants, viewpoints, and hidden spots, don’t forget to check out the Google Map guide I mentioned earlier.
